The Legacy

A Century of Light and Landscape

"There was something about the place—the clear, cold light, the vastness of the landscape, and the deep, abiding presence of the Pueblo—that called to us."

The Taos Society of Artists

Founded in 1915, the Taos Society of Artists (TSA) was formed by a group of Eastern artists who had been captivated by the unique light and culture of Northern New Mexico. Ernest Blumenschein and Bert Phillips famously broke a wagon wheel nearby in 1898, an accident that led to the establishment of Taos as a world-renowned art colony.

The Modern Era

The legacy continued with the arrival of modernists like Agnes Martin, Georgia O'Keeffe, and R.C. Gorman. Today, Taos remains a vibrant intersection of traditional Native American arts, Hispanic craft, and contemporary experimentation.
